Arsenal's Ramsey shocked by anti-Wenger banner
A banner urging Arsene Wenger to leave the job he's held for over 20 years has taken Aaron Ramsey by surprise, as the Arsenal midfielder expressed his faith in the under-fire manager.
Arsenal's run of poor results in the Premier League has once again triggered an angry response from some supporters of the North London side, with tempers reaching a boiling point ahead of a 4-0 FA Cup victory over Hull City on Tuesday when a fan unfurled a banner that read: "Arsene, thanks for the memories but it's time to say goodbye."
Ramsey, however, expressed his "shock" at yet another episode of unrest following previous incidents where fans have voiced their grief with the Wenger, who's attempting to become the first manager in over 100 years to lead his team to a third consecutive FA Cup
"It shocked me. I didn't see the banner at the time because I was injured and went straight down the tunnel.
"The lads weren't talking about it because the same sentiments have been expressed before. To think that an Arsenal fan has taken the trouble to bring that to a game does shock me.
"You see the amount of managers who get sacked these days - a few bad results and they're under pressure. But Arsene Wenger has handled it before and come out of it and I'm sure he'll do so again.
Ramsey, who has been ruled out for up to four weeks because of a thigh injury suffered during the Hull City victory, added that Leicester City's stunning climb to the top of the Premier League table could be the reason behind frustrations in the stands.
"I think the frustration is there because it's Leicester at the top of the Premier League and the so-called bigger teams aren't.
"Everybody sees this season as an opportunity missed. This squad is good enough to win the league. On our day we can beat anybody."
The club has stumbled as of late in the league, while Leicester continues its improbable march up the table. Arsenal has failed to win a match since Feb. 14, when a 2-1 triumph over the Foxes temporarily restored belief of ending a Premier League title drought that stretches back to 2004.
Arsenal continues its quest to win a third consecutive FA Cup on Sunday when it hosts Watford for a chance to book a place in the semifinals.
