Report: Raiders among teams pursuing Eric Weddle
The Oakland Raiders made a big splash in free agency, signing Kelechi Osemele, Bruce Irvin, and Sean Smith, and they're apparently not done yet.
The Raiders are interested in former San Diego Chargers safety Eric Weddle, multiple sources have told Scott Bair of CSNBayArea.com, with one saying the team has reached out to his representatives in the hopes of convincing him to sign.
The Raiders are among at least four teams pursuing Weddle at the moment, reports Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune.
Weddle, however, isn't rushing the decision.
"Patience," his agent, David Canter, wrote Thursday on Twitter. "Have to make the right decision. We have lots to process."
Smith, who's also represented by Canter, is doing his part to try to convince Weddle to join him in Oakland.
"I was talking to him before I even came up here," Smith told Bair. "Look, if we were to add Eric Weddle, it would just be so special. But regardless of who we add, I know (assistant defensive backs coach Rod Woodson) and (secondary coach Marcus Robertson) are going to make it work in the back-end. But Eric Weddle is definitely a special player and I think if we can get him, we'll be alright."
