Giants' Jenkins: I need to 'stop being lazy at the end of games'
Janoris Jenkins was just handed a $62.5-million, five-year contract by the New York Giants, so presumably the last thing the team wants to hear is the cornerback believes the biggest area he can improve on is his effort.
Jenkins was asked during his introductory press conference Thursday about how he can become a better player, and replied he can "stop being lazy at the end of games."
In fairness, Jenkins quickly clarified that he meant he can't lose focus because he doesn't think quarterbacks will challenge his side of the field, but it was a curious admission to make in his first opportunity to speak to the media as a member of the Giants.
The 27-year-old spent the first four years of his career with the St. Louis Rams, playing in one of the NFL's smaller markets, and now faces the distinctly different challenge of performing in the bright lights of The Big Apple.
"I feel the pressure," Jenkins said. "Coming to an organization like this, you always feel the pressure."
Signing Jenkins was one of several high-profile moves made by the Giants on the first day of free agency, which also included handing significant contracts to pass-rusher Olivier Vernon and nose tackle Damon Harrison.
