J.J. Watt regrets criticizing Zach Mettenberger's selfies

Troy Taormina / USA TODAY Sports

Not long ago, J.J. Watt mocked Tennessee Titans quarterback Zach Mettenberger for posting goofy selfies of himself to social media after Mettenberger was named starter.

In a 2014 game, Watt sacked Mettenberger and then taunted him by miming taking a selfie.

The feud continued for a few months, with Mettenberger calling Watt "high school-ish" and Watt saying he "doesn't concern himself with the opinions of a sheep."

Since then, Watt has posted dozens of selfies on his Instagram page, actions that could be interpreted as hypocritical.

After Watt praised MLB star Bryce Harper on Thursday for arguing that sports should be fun, a fan pointed out Watt's distaste for Mettenberger's selfies and the inherent hypocrisy in his words and actions.

Watt responded by admitting he regrets his comments:

Don't look for Watt and Mettenberger to suddenly become buddies, but maybe Watt will get a little less agitated the next time he shares the field with a player who doesn't take football so seriously.
