Dion Waiters away from Thunder after brother's death

Dion Waiters of the Oklahoma City Thunder will not play Wednesday against the Los Angeles Clippers due to a personal matter.

The shooting guard published two Instagram posts Tuesday night which alluded to the loss of his brother. A Philadelphia TV station later reported that one of the victims in a spate of violence in the city Tuesday was Waiters' brother.

The tragedy is the latest in a string of off-court turmoil for the Thunder organization. Minority owner Aubrey McClendon was killed in a car crash last week, only a month after the death of Ingrid Williams, the wife of assistant coach Monty Williams, in another auto wreck.

"He's got our love and support throughout it all and he knows we're here for him," teammate Kevin Durant said of Waiters on Wednesday morning.

Waiters is no stranger to tragedy. As a high school standout in Philadelphia, two cousins and a close friend were killed in separate shootings. He later lost another cousin in a motorcycle accident.
