The Miami Dolphins are expected to part ways with cornerback Brent Grimes in the coming days, Omar Kelly of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports.

The news comes on the heels of another report from NFL Network's Ian Rapoport that the Dolphins are in talks with the Philadelphia Eagles regarding a possible trade involving cornerback Byron Maxwell.

Grimes is due to make $8 million in 2016 as part of the four-year, $32-million extension he signed with the Dolphins in 2014. Miami approached Grimes about restructuring his contract, but he declined, preferring to hit free agency, according to Kelly.

Releasing Grimes would create $6.5 million in cap space for the Dolphins.
