Report: NBPA considering filing grievance over voided Motiejunas trade
The National Basketball Players Association is looking into possibly filing a grievance with the league concerning a voided three-team trade which would have sent Houston Rockets forward Donatas Motiejunas to the Detroit Pistons, league sources told Yahoo Sports' Marc Spears.
Prior to the trade deadline on Feb. 18, Motiejunas, along with guard Marcus Thornton, was dealt to the Pistons in exchange for Joel Anthony and a 2016 first-round pick that was top-eight protected. Houston would have then moved Anthony and a 2017 second-round pick to the Philadelphia 76ers.
Detroit eventually backed out of the move after Motiejunas didn't pass his physical. The 25-year-old Lithuanian big man underwent season-ending back surgery in April of last year.
Motiejunas has been sidelined for all but 18 appearances this season, but recently returned to the rotation and has suited up for Houston's last five outings.
Sources close to Motiejunas believe his market value as a restricted free agent will be greatly hindered as a result of the voided trade.
