Terrance Knighton wondering why he keeps bouncing around NFL
With free agency approaching and no deal with the Washington Redskins on the horizon, nose tackle Terrance Knighton appears likely to hit the open market for the second consecutive year.
During an appearance on SiriusXM NFL Radio on Tuesday, Knighton said the Redskins have given no indication they want him back next season.
"I haven’t got any hint that maybe they want me back or anything, to me personally," Knighton said, according to Tarik El-Bashier of CSN Mid-Atlantic. "I haven't heard anything. That's one thing I’m not going to stress about.
Although he isn't stressing about the situation, he does wonder why he hasn't been able to lock down a long-term deal.
"Obviously, last time around I was hoping that something could get done with Denver, and was praying on that, and talking up (the Broncos) all the time whenever I talked to the media, because I felt in my heart that's where I was going to be and my emotions got caught (up) into it," Knighton said.
"This time around, I understand it's a business. (But) I'm not really understanding the whole (reason why) a guy like myself and what I bring to a team, and what I bring to the field, (is) bouncing around like this. But it will catch up with itself."
Knighton started all but one regular-season game for Washington last season, tallying 29 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and seven quarterback pressures while playing about 38 percent of the team's defensive snaps. He believes scheme fit may have something to do with his uncertain future.
"Maybe that's where the disconnect is right now as far as bringing me back," he said.
