NFL sets 2016 salary cap at $155.27 million

The salary cap for the 2016 NFL season has been set at $155.27 million per team, George Atallah of the NFLPA confirmed Friday.

After a 2015 campaign in which teams worked under a $143.28-million limit, the final number for the upcoming season makes for a one-year rise of nearly $12 million.

For cap-strapped teams like the New Orleans Saints, Baltimore Ravens, Miami Dolphins, and Buffalo Bills, the significant difference will provide some additional flexibility heading into the offseason.

The Jacksonville Jaguars, Oakland Raiders, Chicago Bears, and several teams on the opposite end of the spectrum will simply have all the more space at their disposal.

Either way, whether it's bringing in free agents or rewarding homegrown talent, there will be no shortage of money spent around the league over the next month.
