The Baltimore Ravens have placed the franchise tag on kicker Justin Tucker, his agent, Robert S. Roche, announced Friday.
The estimated cost for kickers playing the 2016 season under the franchise tag is $4.5 million.
Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome acknowledged Wednesday at the NFL Scouting Combine that tagging Tucker was an option and said the two sides would continue to negotiate a long-term deal.
"We've had some (contract) discussions, but we will franchise Justin if we do not get a deal done," Newsome said, according to the team's official website. "Even if we do franchise him, we will continue to work to get a deal done."
Tucker ranks as the second-most accurate kicker in NFL history, having made 87.8 percent of his career kicks.
