Report: Ty Lawson agrees to deal with Pacers

Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

Free-agent point guard Ty Lawson has agreed to a deal with the Indiana Pacers, according to The Vertical's Shams Charania. Lawson will clear waivers Thursday evening after agreeing to a buyout with the Houston Rockets on Tuesday.

Lawson has had interest from two other teams, reports Charania, but the Pacers appear to be the favorites to land him. On Wednesday, multiple reports had the New York Knicks kicking the tires on him.

Interest on the Pacers' part seems curious given their need for more frontcourt depth and the presence of guards like George Hill, Monta Ellis, and Rodney Stuckey. However, Hill was reportedly shopped prior to the trade deadline for an upgrade at the point, and Stuckey and Ellis are more shooting guards with combo skills.

Lawson played the worst basketball of his career in his 53-game tenure in Houston, hitting career lows in every major statistical category. The point guard couldn't mesh with the ball-dominant James Harden and was later relegated to duty off the bench.

Still only 28, suitors are hoping Lawson's off-floor issues with alcohol are behind him and he can recapture the wheelhouse he exhibited during the majority of six seasons with the Denver Nuggets.
