Report: Health of Blue Jays' minor leaguer nixed Bruce deal

Jay Bruce isn't going anywhere for the time being.

After a proposed three-team trade between the Toronto Blue Jays, Los Angeles Angels, and Cincinnati Reds, headlined by Bruce, was stalled due to medical concerns on Monday, new information about the stalled trade has surfaced courtesy of FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal.

Rosenthal reports the medical concerns delaying the deal involve a Blue Jays minor leaguer, and not outfielder Michael Saunders, who was reportedly heading to the Angels in the swap.

Rosenthal adds the trade is off for now, although Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports the Blue Jays could still try to acquire Bruce in another way.

On Monday, sources told ESPN's Jerry Crasnick that Saunders' troublesome left knee appeared to be holding up the deal.

The 29-year-old outfielder missed most of the 2015 season after slipping on a sprinkler head during spring training, tearing the meniscus in his knee.

He owns a career slash line of .230/.301/.381 across seven big-league seasons, but has only appeared in nine games for the Blue Jays since being acquired from the Seattle Mariners in December 2014.

Bruce, meanwhile, is a two-time All-Star who's averaged 26 home runs and just over 79 RBIs per season during his big-league career, and would have added another powerful bat to an already formidable Blue Jays lineup.

Multiple reports said that Bruce, who turns 29 in April, removed the Blue Jays from his no-trade list earlier this winter.
