Texas football president warns against collaborating with IMG Academy

Texas High School Coaching Association president Glen West isn't overly fond of IMG Academy, and the crazed phenomenon athletes are being sold by the program.

The Florida-based academy publicizes itself as one of the top private prep schools in America. It has a knack for recruiting some of the top high school football players in the country.

So far this year, IMG has added the top players in Texas' recruiting class, stacking its roster more than ever. In an open letter in the February edition of "Texas Coach" magazine, West went on to say that if this carries on, it could "destroy our profession," according to the San Antonio Express-News' Ben Baby.

"At the current moment, IMG Academy has actively recruited three of our top Texas high school football players to play their senior season for their traveling football team," West wrote. "The reason given for these young athletes to attend this academy is to better prepare for the next level of competition.

"I adamantly disagree with the reasoning."

Later on in his letter, he added that in order to block IMG from actively recruiting, Texas schools should cease from scheduling games against them. So far this year, none of them have.
