The Cleveland Browns are close to reaching a new contract with wide receiver Travis Benjamin, according to ESPN's Tony Grossi.

Benjamin is slated to become an unrestricted free agent and would be one of the premier wide receivers on the open market.

The 26-year-old is coming off a breakout campaign where he recorded 68 receptions for 966 yards and five touchdowns.

A former collegiate sprinter, Benjamin possesses outstanding breakaway speed and is a threat every time he touches the field.

If Josh Gordon is reinstated from suspension for the 2016 season, the Browns could suddenly boast an appealing receiving core after a tumultuous 3-13 season.
