At long last, Antonio Nocerino is heading to Central Florida after falling out of favor at AC Milan in recent years.

On Thursday, Orlando City SC announced the acquisition of Nocerino from D.C. United in exchange for targeted and general allocation money. He'll be added to the Floridian club's roster upon receipt of his P-1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate.

As Steven Goff of The Washington Post writes, D.C. United, who held a discovery claim on Nocerino, brought the complicated saga to an end by relinquishing his league rights in exchange for allocation money, which may be valued at $50,000.

Major League Soccer's 2015 MLS Player Rules and Regulations Summary states:

If a club wants to sign a player on the Discovery List of another team, it may offer the team $50,000 in Allocation Money in exchange for the right to sign the player. The team with the player on its Discovery List will then either (i) have to accept the Allocation Money and give up the right to sign the player or (ii) make the player a genuine, objectively reasonable offer.

However, as Goff points out, sources familiar with Orlando City's acquisition of Nocerino said United collected "much more than it would have under normal circumstances because a tampering charge was hanging over Orlando City."

"Antonio is a player that we really admire, who can be effective in a number of different positions, which gives us great depth," said Orlando City's founder and president Phil Rawlins. "His vast experience in the Serie A will be invaluable for our team as we aim to make the MLS playoffs in 2016."

Nocerino, 30, last took the pitch at Parma, where he tallied three goals over 20 appearances while on loan from Milan. However, he's featured for a multitude of Italian clubs since 2003, when he made his professional debut after rising through Juventus' youth academy.

"I've always said that I'd like an experience abroad, it arrived and I grabbed it," Nocerino told SportItalia, according to MLS' official website. "I don't expect anything from Milan, my needs (were focused on) feeling good and choosing a project where I would really feel an integral part, with fact and not just words. I stayed with the Rossoneri to get my chance. I wanted to put myself into the discussion and find a space.

"I will always be grateful to Milan for what they gave me and made me become. I had many requests from abroad and didn't turn any away. I've never thought about money because it's very clear why I went to Parma to play for free and it's a decision I would make another thousand times because they gave me so much and I worked with a top man and coach like (Roberto) Donadoni.

"In these last few months with my family I've looked for a solution that would be good for everyone and in the end I chose Orlando."
