NHL Waiver Watch: Wednesday Edition

Bruce Fedyck / USA TODAY Sports

Here are three players to target on waivers this week:

G Ondrej Pavelec, Winnipeg Jets

Ownership of the Czech native likely dropped off after a lengthy layoff with a knee injury suffered in late November. Having finally returned to the lineup, Pavelec has performed strongly in two mid-February starts, being on the winning and losing ends of a pair of 2-1 decisions.

With impressive rookie Connor Hellebuyck having returned to the AHL, Pavelec should see the majority of the starts for the rest of the season. The playoffs are likely out of reach for the Jets, but the recent re-signing of defenseman Dustin Byfuglien would seem to indicate that Winnipeg isn't throwing in the towel on its season.

While the Jets sit last in the extremely competitive Western Conference Central Division, six of the team's next eight games are against Eastern Conference opponents, against whom Winnipeg has compiled a 11-9-2 record so far this season.

C/W Mark Arcobello, Toronto Maple Leafs

The 5-foot-8 Arcobello opened the season in Toronto, but was soon demoted to the AHL. Due to an influx of injuries to key contributors like Joffrey Lupul, Tyler Bozak and Nazem Kadri, Arcobello was among several players recalled in early February.

With three goals and 15 shots in his four most recent games, Arcobello has been making the most of his latest chance at the NHL level. He's received at least 15 minutes of ice time in those four games, with ample power play duty as well. With 17 goals in a 2014-15 season spent with four NHL teams, the diminutive forward has some offensive punch, but his size has likely prevented him from getting a longer look.

Until the team's injury ward thins out, Toronto may have no choice but to keep playing its array of AHLers. The team has four home games in the span of a week starting Thursday, February 18, and will face the New York Rangers, Philadelphia Flyers, Nashville Predators and Carolina Hurricanes.

W David Perron, Anaheim Ducks

No longer ranking dead-last in goals per game like they were for much of the season, the Ducks have been on fire since mid-January, winning 12 of 15 games and scoring at least three goals in all but two of those contests.

Perron's acquisition from Pittsburgh coincided with the start of Anaheim's hot streak, as he's registered six goals and seven assists in 13 games with his new team. He's only failed to get on the score sheet four times with the Ducks, making him a consistent performer, and he's currently been playing alongside Ryan Getzlaf at even-strength and on the power play.

The immediate schedule looks conducive to Anaheim continuing its scoring run - three of its next five opponents (Vancouver, Calgary and Edmonton) rank among the 10 most forgiving teams in terms of goals allowed.
