Louisville official: School president instituted postseason ban on his own
The decision by Louisville officials to self-impose a postseason ban was far from unanimous.
Professor Ricky Jones, one of six members of the university's investigations committee, said Monday the group never voted on what action to take, and that school president James Ramsey made the call to impose the ban on his own.
Jones added that the NCAA did not present any new information to the school immediately before Ramsey announced the ban.
"There was nothing we saw that implicated anyone but Andre McGee," Jones said, according to Andrew Wolfson of the Courier-Journal.
Ramsey announced on Feb. 5 that the Cardinals would not participate in the ACC or NCAA tournaments as the school and NCAA continue to investigate claims that the ex-staffer McGee paid escorts to woo recruits.
Jones, who also chairs Louisville's Pan African Studies Department, said the current roster is being unfairly punished, but maintained he isn't a critic of Ramsey.
Louisville coach Rick Pitino has also been vocal about his disagreement with the ban for the same reason. Pitino said Monday that the ban is "weighing on" his players.
