Kinkaid's 1st career shutout backstops Devils' 3rd-straight win

Ed Mulholland / USA TODAY Sports

Goaltender Keith Kinkaid made 12 of his 27 saves in the third period Sunday on way to his first career shutout, while defenseman David Schlemko scored the game's lone goal as the New Jersey Devils won their third consecutive game, 1-0 over the Los Angeles Kings.

Kinkaid filled in admirably as No.1 goalie Cory Schneider got a well-deserved break after allowing a single goal in both outings of back-to-back wins. It was the 26-year-old's first win of 2016 in his third appearance.

The goaltending duo have now backstopped the Devils to a 4-1-2 record in February, despite their offense only registering one three-goal game - a 3-2 win over the New York Rangers on Feb. 2.

Date Opp Result Goalie Saves
2 NYR 3-2 W Schneider 31
4 TOR 3-2 SOL Kinkaid 37
6 WSH 3-2 SOL Schneider 27
8 NYR 2-1 L Schneider 35
9 EDM 2-1 W Schneider 19
13 PHI 2-1 W Schneider 31
14 LAK 1-0 W Kinkaid 28

The Kings weren't all too impressed with Kinkaid's effort however, with the team's Twitter account giving the right post behind him more credit for the victory.

Jhonas Enroth stopped 17 of 18 shots for the Kings in relief of Jonathan Quick, who is nursing an undisclosed injury.
