Bacary Sagna says Manchester City is still title favourite

Manchester City full-back Bacary Sagna insists his side is the favourite to win its second Premier League title in three seasons.

Just don't tell table-topper Leicester City, especially after Saturday's 3-1 dropping of the Mancunians at the Etihad sent the hosts to fourth place, six points adrift of the fairy-tale Foxes.

Yet to defeat any of the top six sides this campaign, Sagna and co. are hardly in a position to boast, though that doesn't appear to bother the former Arsenal right-back.

"We are a top team and, to me, we are the best team in the league," Sagna told Sky Sports.

"Right now things haven't gone the way we wanted them to go but that's football, hopefully we learn."

City's loss to Leicester was its first league defeat since falling to Arsenal 2-1 a few days before Christmas, but it's how the Citizens have been playing that's cause for concern. A 1-0 victory over Sunderland four days prior to the Leicester result was a hardly a convincing display for a side with title ambitions.

"We will also learn from last week (Leicester defeat). We can start looking ahead and start looking forward to getting back to our best," Sagna said.

"I want to think positive though, we are still on top and, while we are six points behind Leicester, we are not far away. If we win every single game we can make it happen."

As ambitious as that sounds, greater gaps have been overcome with 13 matches to play, though Sunday's visit from second-place Tottenham looms large as a potential point of crisis for the club.

"It is essential we beat Tottenham like it will be essential for us to beat other teams in the future," Sagna said. "We cannot afford to drop points as we have."

He added, "We still have plenty of time to do it but we need to start winning again. Everyone has trust, we trust that we have the confidence and qualities and we are going to try and make it happen."
