Ex-NHLer Todd Ewen's brain doesn't reveal traces of CTE

A study of deceased former NHL enforcer Todd Ewen's brain did not reveal signs of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE).

Ewen suffered multiple concussions during his 11-year career.

"Our findings continue to show that concussions can affect the brain in different ways," Dr. Lili-Naz, a neuropathologist said in a release obtained by The Canadian Press.

"This underlines the need to not only continue this research, but also be cautious about drawing any definitive conclusions about CTE until we have more data."

Ewen died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in September. He suffered from memory loss, chronic body pain, and depression prior to taking his life.

He racked up 1,911 penalty minutes in 518 NHL games.
