Here's a look at five memories Maple Leafs fans can hold on to now that Phaneuf will be a member of the rival Ottawa Senators:

First dance

It didn't take long for Phaneuf to show off his physical side, dropping the gloves with Colin White less than 10 minutes into his first game game with the club.

Donning the 'C'

On June 14, 2010, Phaneuf was named the 18th captain in franchise history, with then-general manager Brian Burke saying Phaneuf was fit to represent one of the greatest brands in professional sports on the planet.

"Better get you on the bike there, buddy"

The past five years in Toronto were largely defined by the presence of Phaneuf and Phil Kessel, who was also traded away this past summer.

Phaneuf calling Kessel out for eating too many cookies serves as a classic moment in their relationship.

"Suck it, Phaneuf"

Phaneuf appeared in the 2012 All-Star Game as a member of the blue and white, and was on the receiving end of one of hockey's most famous chirps courtesy of Scott Hartnell.

Lone playoff goal

Phaneuf appeared in seven playoff games for the Maple Leafs, all of them during their now infamous series against the Boston Bruins in 2013.

He did record a goal in that series, opening the scoring for his side in what was a pivotal Game 6.
