Jordan Eberle thinks Oilers can make playoff push

In two games since Connor McDavid's return to the lineup, the Edmonton Oilers have racked up a pair of wins while outscoring the opposition 12-3.

Despite the fact those contests were played against teams outside the playoff picture, it appears as though there's some optimism percolating in terms of the Oilers making a postseason push down the stretch.

"If you look at the standings, it's pretty simple," Jordan Eberle said after a 7-2 win over Ottawa. "We need to win some games if we want to make a push. This is a start."

There's reason for Eberle to be feeling positive, as he's recorded three goals and two assists while playing on what's become a very productive line with McDavid and Benoit Pouliot.

And he may actually be on to something, as corroborated by McDavid's math.

But it's likely too late for the Oilers to think about printing postseason tickets.

With 30 games remaining on the schedule, and even after Thursday's win over Ottawa, the Oilers remain in last place in the Pacific Division, well back of both third place and the second wild-card spot.

On top of that, they're set to play without Ryan Nugent-Hopkins - out with a hand injury - for several weeks.

Still, the Oilers' next five opponents are Montreal, the New York Islanders, New Jersey, Toronto, and Winnipeg, giving them a good shot at picking up at least several points.

Perhaps the luck that led them to McDavid will translate to actual success on the ice sooner than later.
