The NFL has acknowledged a police report indicating Johnny Manziel's ex-girlfriend alleges he struck her multiple times during a Jan. 30 altercation.

In a statement released by an NFL spokesman, the league indicated a review of the incident is ongoing.

"Our review of this incident began when it happened. We are aware of the police report," Greg Aiello said Thursday.

While the police report alleges Manziel struck Colleen Crowley multiple times, an ABC 8 News reports states Crowley is filing an affidavit that claims the former Heisman Trophy winner threatened her life and his own.

Before details of the incident emerged, the Cleveland Browns released a statement indicating the team would be releasing Manziel when they are able to do so.

"We've been clear about expectations for our players on and off the field," Executive vice president Sashi Brown said. "Johnny's continual involvement in incidents that run counter to those expectations undermines the hard work of his teammates and the reputation of our organization. His status with our team will be addressed when permitted by league rules. We will have no further comment at this time."
