Buffalo Bills scout in attendance watching Rico Gathers vs. Texas

Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

Antonio Gates, Jimmy Graham, and Julius Thomas have made the leap from college basketball to the NFL in recent years and Baylor's Rico Gathers could be next.

Gathers has expressed interest in the prospect and the Buffalo Bills seem to think the Bears' star forward could be suited to make the jump to the gridiron.

Baylor hosted Texas on Monday night and a scout from the Bills was in attendance to check out the 6-foot-8, 275-pound rebounding machine in action.

If Gathers were to make the leap to the NFL, he would be the second football star in his family, as older brother Greg was an All-American defensive end at Georgia Tech.

While the 2014-15 first-team All-Big 12 selection dominates the college boards, he would be undersized as an NBA power forward and could fit better on an NFL field.

While most college basketball players that head to professional football end up as tight ends, the idea of the ultra-athletic Gathers coming off the edge on a Rex Ryan-led defense is certainly intriguing to Bills fans everywhere.
