Report: Orlando City trying to sign AC Milan's Antonio Nocerino

With its second MLS season a little more than a month away, Orlando City is trying to sign AC Milan midfielder Antonio Nocerino, sources told the Orlando Sentinel's Paul Tenorio.

Nocerino, 30, is under contract with the Rossoneri until the summer, but with only two league appearances this year for Sinisa Mihajlovic's lot, the former Azzurri international appears to be surplus to requirement at the San Siro.

Asked Monday whether Orlando City would complete a move before the transfer window closed, boss Adrian Heath said, "We've been trying, we've been trying all weekend."

As keen as Heath apparently is to bring the former Palermo player to Florida, the Juventus academy product's discovery rights are currently owned by D.C. United. United would have first dibs on the player if released by Milan, though Heath appears ardent in his desire to sign Nocerino.

"We thought we were close and then it went off the boil a little bit, but as of last night it was back on. So we're hopeful," Heath said Monday.

Orlando City kicks off its MLS season by hosting Real Salt Lake on March 6, looking to build on last year's surprising seventh-place finish led by the exploits of another former Milan player, Kaka, and 17-goal Rookie of the Year Cyle Larin.
