The Philadelphia Eagles and defensive end Fletcher Cox are close to finalizing a contract extension, according to Eliot Shorr-Parks of NJ.com.

Cox is due to make $7.7 million in 2016, the fifth and final year of his current deal. He made it clear Thursday that he hopes to remain in Philadelphia for many years to come.

"I wanna be there, that's where I want to be - for the long haul," Cox told Conor Orr of Around The NFL. "I think the team wants me there, everyone wants me there from the owner all the way down."

The 25-year-old started all 16 games for the Eagles in 2015, racking up a team-high 9.5 sacks and 71 tackles.
