The Philadelphia Eagles' flurry of early offseason deals now includes a long-term pact with offensive tackle Lane Johnson.

The Eagles announced Friday that the two sides have agreed to terms on a new six-year contract running through 2021.

The deal (which was initially characterized as a five-year extension because Johnson had one year remaining on his rookie deal) has a maximum value of $63 million and $33.5 million in guarantees, a source told FOX Sports' Mike Garafolo.

The money is huge for a right tackle, but could turn out to be a bargain for the Eagles if they convert Johnson into a left tackle and if the salary cap rises substantially (as is expected).

The former fourth overall draft pick has played opposite Jason Peters for the Eagles, but Peters is 34 years old, carries a large cap hit, and is coming off a season in which his play seemed to drop off.

Johnson has three years of experience as a pro, but is still only 25 years old and seemingly has his best days ahead of him. He filled in at left tackle when Peters was hurt this season and held his own.

Johnson was suspended for the first four games of the 2014 season after testing positive for performance-enhancing substances, but the Eagles' significant financial commitment to him suggests the team isn't concerned about a future failed test.
