Report: Grizzlies gauging market for Jeff Green, Courtney Lee

The Memphis Grizzlies are looking to make some tweaks around their core four.

The team is "taking the temperature of the market" for forward Jeff Green and Courtney Lee, both set to become unrestricted free agents this summer, reports ESPN's Marc Stein.

Sources tell Stein the Grizzlies are still looking to make a push this season around the core of Zach Randolph, Tony Allen, Mike Conley, and Marc Gasol, despite a growing groundswell to restructure the team.

In order to complement their existing pieces, the Grizzlies need a surplus of shooters to unclog the lane around their bigs. Green and Lee were brought in to play that role, but have disappointed so far this season.

Green is averaging 11.4 points and 4.5 rebounds while shooting 28.8 percent from deep, while Lee is putting up 10.2 points on 35.2 percent from distance.

Both players, however, would be useful pieces for other contenders. Despite his struggles this season, Lee's proved himself as a spot-up shooter in the past. Green's best used at power forward - an opportunity Memphis hasn't always been able to afford given Randolph's place in the lineup.

After a slow start to the season, the Grizzlies have returned to their winning ways with a record of 27-20 while sitting fifth in the Western Conference, but that's belied by their underlying numbers: The "Grit and Grind" Grizzlies rank 24th in offensive rating, 16th in defensive rating, and hold a negative point differential.
