Report: Raiders officials to visit Las Vegas to assess possible relocation site
The Oakland Raiders are without a permanent home for the foreseeable future, with their return to Oakland uncertain and the San Diego Chargers as prime candidates to join the Rams in Los Angeles.
Consequently, the Raiders are exploring several other possible avenues, which now reportedly includes one interesting option: Las Vegas.
Raiders officials are reportedly traveling to Las Vegas on Friday morning to assess potential relocation sites, reports Jon Ralston of Ralston Reports.
Ralston cites a correspondence with the University of Nevada, Las Vegas president Len Jessup, which states that the Raiders officials are particularly interesting in scouting a 42-acre site that was recently acquired by the university.
Jessup also states that a new special events stadium is currently be considered in Southern Nevada and that their recently acquired land is thought to be a prime location for it.
Raiders owner Mark Davis declined to comment on the team's possible visit and interest in Las Vegas.
"In typical Raider fashion," Davis said, according to Paul Gutierrez of ESPN, "I can neither confirm nor deny."
