New York City signs Frederic Brillant from Belgian outfit K.V. Oostende
New York City FC announced on Thursday the club has signed French central defender Frederic Brillant from Belgian outfit K.V. Oostende using Targeted Allocation Money.
Brillant, 30, joins the sophomore MLS side having made 79 appearances in the Belgian first division over the course of the last three years. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Head coach Patrick Vieira was pleased with the move, in particular with the experience Brillant brings to his team.
"To have more experience in the back will give the club different options," Vieira said in a statement. "We've brought in a number of young players recently so to add some experience is important. Frederic is very composed with the ball at his feet and has a great understanding of the game."

As for Brillant, he's looking forward to a new challenge, one he called a "great opportunity."
"I'm very excited to wear the colors of New York City FC and play in front of the fans at Yankee Stadium," Brillant said. "It will be an honor for me to be coached by Patrick Vieira, he is a role model in France for what he's achieved in his career and is known throughout the game for his leadership."
