Seahawks GM: Lynch 'leaning toward retirement'

Marshawn Lynch may be ready to call it quits.

Seattle Seahawks general manager John Schneider said he's under the impression that Lynch is "leaning toward retirement" during a Friday appearance on ESPN 710.

Lynch flirted with retirement last offseason as well, but ended up signing a two-year, $24-million contract extension with the Seahawks in March. If he does retire, Lynch would owe the team $5 million in bonus money, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.

"Don't know at this point. If you put a gun to my head I would say he's leaning toward retirement but with him, you don't know," Schneider said, according to Dave Mahler of Sportsradio 950 KJR.

Schneider added, "If he were to come back and wanted to play, sure, we'd have to adjust some things."

Lynch turns 30 this year and is coming off an injury-plagued season in which he was limited to seven games and averaged just 3.8 yards per carry - the second-lowest output of his career.

The veteran running back also counts for $11.5 million against Seattle's salary cap in 2016, while rookie Thomas Rawls carries a cap hit of just $530,000.
