Liverpool is reportedly turning to Shakhtar Donetsk in its search for firepower.

According to Marcus Christenson of the Guardian, Liverpool has made an offer of £24.6 million (€32 million) for Alex Teixeira, with Ian Ayre, the Reds' chief executive, flying to Florida in an attempt to clinch a deal.

Shakhtar, preparing for the Florida Cup, apparently values Teixeira at a figure far above what Liverpool is bidding, but the Merseyside club is confident that an agreement can be reached.

Teixeira, 26, has scored 67 goals in 146 Ukrainian Premier League fixtures through five years at the club, including 22 goals through 15 appearances this season. Those numbers obviously bode well for Liverpool given that the Reds have only tallied 25 goals across 22 Premier League matches this season, and given the injuries suffered by Danny Ings, Daniel Sturridge, Divock Origi, and Philippe Coutinho.

However, Teixeira is nursing an ailment of his own, as he suffered a hamstring injury on Tuesday that forced him to miss Shaktar's friendly against Corinthians on Wednesday. "I decided not to risk it and rest him," Mircea Lucescu, the Ukrainian club's manager, said.

The Brazilian forward was linked with a move to Chelsea, and he recently told O Globo of his pleasure in being mentioned as a potential target for the Blues, saying: "It's great to have a club like Chelsea interested in me. I always try to do my job well and play to my best."
