Report: Martial could cost Manchester United £61 million if clauses are met
Manchester United will face a bill worth £61.6 million for the transfer that brought Anthony Martial to Old Trafford this summer if the 19-year-old striker activates all of the clauses in the deal, according to a document alleging the details of the transaction.
The website, Football Leaks, has in recent months published what it believes to be contracts involving unscrupulous practices or otherwise hazy agreements.
Martial's deal, which took the Frenchman to the Premier League from Monaco, is the latest to see the light of day. The flat fee for the player stands at £38.5 million, with £15.4 million already paid and another £23.1 million due July 1, as relayed by Sky Sports.
But United will reportedly put up an additional £23.1 million (£7.7 million each) if Martial scores 25 goals for United, makes 25 appearances for France and receives a Ballon d'Or nomination before 2019, by the time his current contract expires.
Monaco will also receive 50 percent of any future sale between €60 million and €100 million, according to the document, while United would keep all the proceeds from any transfer worth more than €100 million.
Martial has scored eight goals in 26 appearances for United thus far, with six caps for France - all of them coming in friendlies.
