Schwarber's NLDS home-run ball removed from Wrigley scoreboard

The ball Chicago Cubs rookie Kyle Schwarber deposited on top of the right-field scoreboard at Wrigley Field with a mammoth solo shot in Game 4 of the National League Division Series was recently removed from its famous resting spot, team spokesman Julian Green told the Chicago Tribune on Tuesday.

Schwarber's seventh-inning blast off Kevin Siegrist, which traveled an estimated 419 feet, was encased in Plexiglas after Game 4 - a 6-4 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals that sent the Cubs to the NLCS - and remained atop the scoreboard for the remainder of the postseason. It was recently relocated to "a safe, secure place," however, that Green did not disclose "for security reasons."

At the time, the 22-year-old told reporters he had no desire to get the baseball for his personal collection.

"I don’t care," he said when asked if he wanted it. "Whatever they want to do with it."

Schwarber, who clobbered five homers with a 1.308 OPS through the postseason, also said he called his Game 4 moonshot, telling then-teammate Dexter Fowler he would go deep shortly before putting Siegrist's 93-mph fastball onto the scoreboard.

"Yeah," he said. "We were out in center field and (manager) Joe (Maddon) was making a pitching change and I was just joking around. I said, 'I'm going to hit a home run off this guy' and he's like, 'Well, do it.' And, there you go."
