As those attending Monday's FIFA Ballon d'Or gala arrived at the Red Carpet, there was inevitably an ensemble or two that stood out above the rest.

While Pogba's tuxedo was undeniably distinctive, it was just another zany outfit worn to the Ballon d'Or gala by one of football's greatest. So, with that in mind, here's a trip down memory lane to remember some of the awards ceremony's wackiest outfits.

Lionel Messi, Ballon d'Or 2014

Franck Ribery, Ballon d'Or 2013

What can be seen in this photo is an ill-fitted velvet jacket. What can't be seen are the silk, floral trousers that make Franck Ribery look like he's about to host a party at the Playboy Mansion.

Lionel Messi, Ballon d'Or 2012

Look at that. It's Messi again, wearing a polka-dot tuxedo and a matching bow tie.

Xavi, Ballon d'Or 2010

If he hadn't been nominated for the Ballon d'Or, Xavi may have been confused for a vampire or someone who got lost on his way to a funeral.
