Hamburg has secured the services of manager Bruno Labbadia with a contract extension that will see him remain at the Volksparkstadion until the end of the 2016-17 campaign.

The former Germany international returned to Die Rothosen for a second spell last April and managed to promptly steer the side to safety thanks to a closely-fought relegation playoff against Karlsruher. With the club currently sitting rather comfortably in 10th, it has moved to keep Labbadia for an additional year.

"We held talks calmly and we're delighted that we were able to extend the contract with Bruno and his coaching team," club director Dietmar Beiersdorfer told the club website.

Labbadia's assistants awarded with new deals are Eddy Sozer and Bernhard Trares.

With the contract extensions wrapped up, Hamburg's attention turns to the visit of Bayern Munich when the Bundesliga winter break is over on Jan. 22.
