Red Bulls extend McCarty, Felipe; sign Perrinelle to full MLS deal

The New York Red Bulls announced three key roster decisions for the 2016 season Friday, signing midfielders Dax McCarty and Felipe to multi-year contract extensions and picking up defender Damien Perrinelle on a permanent deal.

McCarty and Felipe combined effectively in the middle of the park for the Red Bulls last season, guiding the team to a MLS Supporters' Shield win. Perrinelle rejoins the team after having his contract option declined.

"We believe that consistency is one of the keys to success and keeping our core intact," Red Bulls sporting director Ali Curtis said in a statement. "Both Dax and Felipe were integral to what we accomplished last season, and we are pleased to keep them with the club going forward."

Curtis added, "We are very excited to bring back Damien. He was a very important part of our team this past season. Despite the injury Damien suffered in the playoffs, we are doing everything we can to support his recovery and we look forward to him returning to full fitness."

McCarty captained the Red Bulls last season while Felipe joined out of the Montreal Impact. Perrinelle is now a full member of the team once more and is currently recovering from a season-ending knee injury.
