Calipari reportedly asking $120M for NBA return, says he's staying at Kentucky

It wouldn't be a new year without a new John Calipari-to-the-NBA rumor.

With reports surfacing over the weekend linking the Kentucky coach to the Brooklyn Nets, the latest rumor suggests Calipari's asking price is $120 million over 10 years, according to Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski.

Calipari's name has been rumored for numerous NBA jobs in the past, but with the Nets' dismissal of coach Lionel Hollins and reassignment of GM Billy King on Sunday, Brooklyn is back in the mix for a head coach. Calipari previously coached the then-New Jersey Nets from 1996 to 1999.

Calipari reportedly turned down a 10-year, $80-million offer to coach the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2014 - prompting the Cavs to hire David Blatt. According to Wojnarowski, he rejected Cleveland's offer because it was only an incremental raise over what he makes overseeing the Wildcats' basketball program.

The three-time Naismith Coach of the Year winner has also been linked to the Sacramento Kings, where his former Kentucky center DeMarcus Cousins plies his trade. He engaged in conversations with Vivek Ranadive last spring, but the team owner couldn't get support to hire Calipari from minority partners, reports Wojnarowski.

Calipari subsequently stated publicly that he had no intention to leave Lexington.

Not surprisingly, the coach, active on Twitter, did the same on Monday.

In terms of on-court success, Calipari's brief late '90s NBA experience is the only real blemish on his coaching resume. In two-plus seasons coaching the Nets, he posted a record of 72-112, guiding them to a single playoff appearance.
