West Ham is readying a bid for Leeds United prospect Sam Byram, who has been in glittering form for the Championship outfit this term.

Byram's contract is due to expire at the end of the season, so he should be available at a reduced price, and the Hammers are looking to steal a march on a host of Premier League clubs chasing his signature, with Liverpool monitoring him for some time.

The 22-year-old's versatility - he is able to play both at right-back and on the right midfield - would offer competition and backup for numerous players, including the out-of-sorts Arsenal loanee Carl Jenkinson and the currently sidelined winger Victor Moses.

The Telegraph's Matt Law reports that £5 million should be enough to prize Byram from Elland Road, with half of that allotted cash to be raised through the impending permanent transfer of Matt Jarvis to Norwich City.

Slaven Bilic also has an eye on his attack, with Manuel Lanzini poised to make his loan move from Al Jazira permanent for £7.4 million before April 30, and Everton's Kevin Mirallas also interesting the Croatian manager. A transfer for the latter may have to wait until the summer, however.
