Ole Miss made it look simple in the Big Easy, stomping Oklahoma State 48-20 to earn a victory in the Sugar Bowl.
A dominant first half paved the way for a Rebels victory, as the 10th-ranked offense in the country was firing on all cylinders from the get-go.
Chad Kelly was masterful in his bowl game debut, recovering from an early interception to finish 21-for-33 with 302 yards and four touchdowns, with an extra 73 yards on the ground.
Here's what you need to know:
- Kelly tied the Ole Miss single-season touchdown pass record, equaling Eli Manning's record of 31.
- Of Kelly's four touchdowns, wide receiver Laquon Treadwell caught three of them. In what was likely his final game as a Rebel, Treadwell finished with six receptions and 71 yards, along with a perfect 45-yard pass on a trick play.
- Oklahoma State used both Mason Rudolph and J.W. Walsh at quarterback. The two combined to throw for 303 yards, while Walsh scored the Cowboys' two touchdowns on the ground.
- Treadwell broke the Cowboys' single-season records in receptions, touchdown receptions, and receiving yards.
- The blowout win avenges Ole Miss' 42-3 loss at the hands of TCU in last year's Sugar Bowl.
- 48 points is the most ever for Ole Miss in a bowl game, and the Rebels' 34 first-half points are the most in Sugar Bowl history.
- Ole Miss out-gained Oklahoma State 554-366, as the Cowboys only mustered 63 rushing yards.
Play of the Game
Although there were plenty of options, a big-guy touchdown always holds the trump card. As the first half was expiring, Ole Miss executed a perfect trick play, as star left tackle Laremy Tunsil took the lateral and barreled into the end zone.
