Barcelona sets record for most goals scored by Spanish club in calendar year
Barcelona ended 2015 on a historic note, scoring its 180th goal in Wednesday's 4-0 win over Real Betis to pass Real Madrid as the Spanish club with the most goals scored in a calendar year.
An own goal by Betis defender Heiko Westermann - along with strikes from Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez - solidified the record for Barcelona, which eclipsed Madrid's previous mark of 178 goals from the year prior.
The result had implications in the present as well. It put the Blaugrana atop the league with 38 points, the final touch on a tremendous year.
On Dec. 20, Barcelona added the FIFA Club World Cup to its trophy haul for 2015, which also saw the club win the Supercopa de Espana, the Champions League, the Copa del Rey, and La Liga.

But Barcelona, despite all its riches, remains hungry for more.
"We have a squad that is still excited about winning things," Messi said after the match.
