Saints defense sets record for most TD passes allowed in a season

Derick E. Hingle / US PRESSWIRE

The New Orleans Saints' pass defense has been historically bad this season.

Although the Saints came away with a win Sunday, they also gave up four touchdown passes to Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles. They've now allowed 43 passing touchdowns this season, breaking the previous record of 40, set in 1963 by the Denver Broncos.

The Saints are also on track to break the NFL's all-time record for passer rating allowed at 117.1. The record is owned by the 2008 Detroit Lions, who allowed a cumulative passer rating of 110.9 en route to an 0-16 record.

Rob Ryan took most of the blame for the Saints' defensive futility before he was fired in November, but it appears it may take more than a coordinator change to turn the unit around.
