Favian Upshaw stole the show in the first FBS bowl game in Georgia Southern history, running all over Bowling Green 58-27 to capture the GoDaddy Bowl on Wednesday.

The junior quarterback entered the game at halftime and torched the Falcons for 199 yards rushing and four touchdowns as the nation's top rushing attack piled up an astounding 452 yards in the win.

The Eagles scored touchdowns on six straight possessions, turning a 20-9 deficit into a 31-point victory over the MAC champion.

Here's what you need to know:

  • Bowling Green entered allowing only 161 yards per game on the ground, but was no match for the Georgia Southern ground game. In addition to Upshaw's 199, three other Eagles rushed for 50-plus yards and a total of seven touchdowns.
  • Kevin Ellison played the first half at quarterback for Georgia Southern and connected with Montay Crockett on a crucial 31-yard touchdown to give the Eagles a 23-20 lead. It was Crockett's first catch of the entire season, and just the fourth touchdown pass all year for Ellison.
  • Falcons quarterback Matt Johnson entered second in the nation with 43 touchdown passes, and added three more to his total, but fumbled on back-to-back possessions in the third quarter.
  • Johnson ended the season with 4,946 yards passing, falling just short of becoming the 15th quarterback in FBS history to hit the 5,000-yard mark.
  • Both teams were playing without their head coaches from the season as Dino Babers left Bowling Green for Syracuse and Willie Fritz left Georgia Southern for Tulane earlier in the month.
  • Upshaw's 199 yards rushing smashed his previous career high of 103 set Sept. 12 against Western Michigan, with the Florida native averaging a gaudy 16 yards per carry.

Play of the Game

Upshaw's speed was no match for the Falcons' defense, and no play showed stronger evidence of that than his 80-yard third-quarter touchdown run.

Georgia Southern captured its first bowl game in school history since transitioning to the FBS division in 2014, while Bowling Green finishes with 10 wins for just the third time in the last 20 years.
