Stephen Curry thinks he's the best player in the world

No surprise here, but the NBA's reigning MVP and leading scorer of a 26-1 team thinks he's the best player in the world.

Take it away, Stephen Curry:

"In my mind, yes," Curry told TIME when asked if he's the world's best player right now. "That's how I have confidence out there that I can play at a high level every night."

And again, why wouldn't "Chef Curry" be confident? He leads the league in both points and scoring efficiency. His mark of 31.8 points per game easily laps the field, and he's accomplishing it on an absurd true shooting percentage of 68.9.

Oh, and his team has lost once all season.

The calm, levelheaded point guard didn't mean to be brash, though. If anything, his quiet confidence is a necessary ingredient to his success.

"I don't get into debates, arguing with people about why I am versus somebody else. I feel like anybody who's at the level I'm trying to be at, if you don't think that when you're on the floor, then you're doing yourself a disservice," Curry added.

In line with that mentality, Curry's peers have also laid claim to the throne. LeBron James famously called himself the league's best player after losing to the Warriors in the finals. James Harden said it, too, and so has his former teammate Kevin Durant.

As of right now, it's hard for anyone - even greats like James, Durant, and Harden - to knock off Curry. The 6-foot-3 guard is dominating the league like never before, and he's not even done improving.

"You should expect me to keep getting better," he said.
