South Carolina defensive end Shameik Blackshear is expected to recover after being shot multiple times Wednesday, reports Harrison Cahill of The State.

Blackshear was shot in the upper and lower body outside an apartment complex for South Carolina students. Police are attempting to identify a suspect and the motive for the shooting.

The freshman was a four-star recruit in the class of 2015, and was one of the Gamecocks' most coveted prospects.

Blackshear has run into several problems this year. In February, he was charged with petite larceny, and in November he was charged with possession of 28 grams or less of marijuana, but was released on conditional discharge.

In only one game this season, Blackshear recorded two tackles.
