Grizzlies' Wright to undergo knee surgery, out 6-8 weeks
Memphis Grizzlies backup big man Brandan Wright will undergo knee surgery Thursday, the team confirmed Wednesday.
The recovery timetable is six-to-eight weeks, Wright told Yahoo Sports' Marc J. Spears.
Wright hasn't played since Nov. 7, when he suffered a right knee injury against the Utah Jazz. The Grizzlies haven't released much in the way of status updates since, but general manager Chris Wallace said Wednesday that rest was not improving the 6-foot-10 Wright's condition.
"There is a need to do the procedure at this time," Wallace said, according to the Memphis Commercial Appeal's Ronald Tillery. "We tried the rest and rehab route."
Wright signed a three-year deal last summer, and was expected to provide an athletic alternative to Marc Gasol or Zach Randolph off the bench. The 28-year-old Tennessee native has a career field-goal percentage of 60.6 percent.
