"Improving our defence is our top priority this offseason, and we are very happy to bring Drew to Toronto FC," general manager Tim Bezbatchenko said in a statement. "Drew brings valuable MLS regular season and playoff experience to our backline. He is a proven winner and a leader with success in our league."

Moor became a free agent earlier this month when his contract with the Colorado Rapids expired. Toronto beat out a "number of interested suitors" for the 31-year-old, said Bezbatchenko.

Moor is an All-Star defender with 10 seasons of MLS experience. Originally drafted by FC Dallas in 2005, Moor was traded to the Rapids four years ago. He captained Colorado for the past three seasons.

"We instantly felt that Toronto gave us the best of both worlds and I’m excited to help make a difference on the pitch here but also to make this community home," said Moor.

Toronto's defence needs as much help as it can get. Despite making its first playoff appearance last season, it allowed as many goals (58) as the Chicago Fire, who finished last in the Eastern Conference.
