The architect is officially in the rafters.

The Edmonton Oilers paid tribute to former coach, general manager, and president Glen Sather prior to Friday's game against the New York Rangers, honoring his 21 years of service with the franchise (1979-2000) and, more specifically, the five Stanley Cup championships won during his tenure.

Surrounded by a host of Oilers legends - including Mark Messier, Grant Fuhr, Jari Kurri, Glen Anderson, and Paul Coffey - Sather's banner was hoisted high above the ice at Rexall Place, cementing his legacy with the team forever.

Sather then took to the podium to offer a few words of thanks, humbly chalking up his success to a healthy dose of luck and a plethora of people that came alongside and helped him along the way.

"The Oilers are one of the greatest teams in the history of hockey," he said. "My love affair with this team has never wavered."

As he left the ice, he looked at the Rangers' bench and appeared to say "let's go" to the team he had helped build since making the move to New York in 2000.
