New York City FC has acquired defender Ethan White from the Philadelphia Union in exchange for a natural 2017 fourth-round MLS SuperDraft pick, the club announced Thursday.

"I'm really pleased," White said in a statement. "It's a great opportunity for me to join an exciting club that's looking to do big things. I'm very happy to be a part of this and I am determined to help the club achieve success. I'm already looking forward to joining my new teammates for preseason."

White, 24, first signed a homegrown contract with D.C. United in 2010, then moved to the Union at the start of the 2014 season, making 26 appearances with the club since that time.

NYCFC sporting director Claudio Reyna said the club is "excited to add an athletic and experienced center-half in Ethan White to our roster. He is a young player and we are looking forward to working with him and developing his game even further."
