Report: Cliff Lee drawing interest from 15 teams

After sitting out the entire 2015 campaign, Cliff Lee is poised to return to the majors next season.

The veteran southpaw is drawing interest from 15 teams, according to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman.

Lee was released by the Philadelphia Phillies last March following a recurring flexor tendon issue, but has received medical clearance to pitch again in 2016. The 37-year-old's career has been stalled by his wonky elbow, and he hasn't pitched in a big-league game since July 2014.

Once considered one of the elite starting pitchers in the game, Lee is a four-time All-Star and earned American League Cy Young honors in 2008 with the Cleveland Indians. He owns a 143-91 record with a 3.52 ERA and 1.19 WHIP across 328 career appearances, but is really coveted for being a pressure performer in the postseason. Lee posted a 7-3 mark with a 2.52 ERA and 0.93 WHIP while tossing 82 innings over three consecutive playoff berths from 2009-11.

Lee could be an excellent gamble for a club seeking a depth starter, and although his elbow is certainly a potential issue, it's quite possible he'd be open to signing a minor-league contract in order to prove himself.
